Shrouded Seascape

Chapter 62: Alive

As the Narwhal's searchlight shone over, an island full of green plants appeared in front of all the crew members.

This good news diluted the thrill just now. Charles excitedly took out the nautical chart and recalibrated the coordinates.

As long as the coordinates of the first island are found, the coordinates of other islands in this island chain will be much easier to determine, and this also directly proves that the nautical chart is authentic.

The Narwhal began to conduct preliminary exploration around this island. After a circle, Charles found that the island was not big, probably only half the size of a coral island.

He judged that the probability of there being a surface entrance to this place was very small, but no matter how small it was, he still had to go up and take a look.

Charles followed the previous steps and threw some sea fish on the island. Seeing that no living creatures came out, he sent the first batch of crew members to the island. This was to be prepared for any unexpected event that might wipe them out. The closer he got to returning home, the more cautious he became.

Two hours later, the first group of crew members emerged from the woods and stood on the beach waving flags.

"No threat." Charles figured out the meaning of the flag signal.

"Drop anchor! Turn off the furnace!" Two wooden boats were lowered and all the crew members approached the island.

Dipper, who was on the island first, said excitedly, "Captain, come quickly, I found a dilapidated house here."

Charles followed him into the forest without saying a word. After passing through a forest path built with a knife blade, he saw a three-story cabin wrapped in vines.

The hut was so dilapidated that Charles wondered whether the cracked hut was supported by the vines climbing all over the outer walls.

"Captain, there's no one inside, not even a body."

Charles led his group carefully into the building. Everything inside the house was covered in dust, as if it had been forgotten by history.

"Look around and notify me if you find any text message." After hearing the captain's order, the crew began to search inside the building. Dust was raised and there were constant coughing sounds in the house.

Charles picked up a water cup made of unknown material, but it shattered instantly when he touched it lightly.

"Ahhh!!" "Bang, bang, bang!" The terrified screams and gunshots brought Charles back to consciousness. He turned around and rushed quickly towards the direction of the sound.

When he rushed into the room where the sound came from, he saw four sailors huddled together, aiming their guns nervously everywhere.

"What did you see? Why did you shoot just now?"

"Captain! Over there! We just saw a little creature running by!" The sailor said, pointing the muzzle of his gun at the innermost part of the messy room.

Charles drew out the black blade and rushed forward, throwing out all kinds of messy things, but he did not find any living creature.

Charles' eyes turned to a corner of the wall, where there was a crack and a row of small footprints on the ground.

He half-knelt down and looked through the crack. A human eye with blue pupils flashed through it. "There's something in there!"

Charles immediately stood up and rushed to the next room, but when he got to the bottom, he did not find the owner of the eyes.

He returned to the original room and carefully identified the footprints on the ground. The footprints were only half a centimeter wide, which was really pitifully small. Charles judged that its owner was no taller than 5 centimeters.

"The natives of the island?" Charles immediately recalled the little man who came out of the head.

But he immediately discarded this idea. The eyes he just saw were clearly the size of a normal person's eyes. A contradiction arose: how could a normal human being pass through a crack that was only one finger wide

"What happened?"

"What just happened here?"

At this time, the other crew members of the Narwhal rushed over and asked questions one after another.

Charles stood up and told them what had just happened. "There are living things on this island, everyone be careful."

Seeing that everyone was a little nervous, Charles said, "Don't worry too much. No matter what that thing is, it is it that is hiding from us, not us hiding from them."

Then Charles asked them, "Did you find any clues in other rooms?"

Seeing everyone shaking their heads, Charles showed a hint of disappointment on his face, but he also felt that it was reasonable. His luck has always been bad, and it is impossible for him to find the way home on the first island.

Led by Charles, the group walked out of the building and continued to explore the island.

The road in the woods was not easy to walk on, as there were vines and branches everywhere, and you had to use a knife to clear a path.

After walking for two hours, Charles estimated that they had not even covered a mile. Looking at the tired and breathless crew members, he ordered them to rest.

"Doctor, do you know these plants on the island?" Charles asked the old man who was chewing bread.

"Do you think I'm omniscient? How can I possibly know the plants on a deserted island? I can only determine that these plants probably won't eat humans."

Richard interrupted directly, "Man, there are so many trees here, which proves that the land here is good and can definitely be used for farming. As long as we find fresh water, we can live on this island!"

"It's not that simple. There are only plants here, no animals."

While the two were discussing, the doctor next to them suddenly collapsed on the ground with a look of pain on his face. Charles rushed over and helped him up. "Doctor, what's wrong? Speak!"

The doctor with a ferocious expression stretched out his iron hand and scratched at his chest randomly. "Damn it! Something is biting me! Help me pull it off!"

Charles lifted up his coat and found a round, pancake-like object moving rapidly inside the doctor's blood-stained shirt.

Not daring to delay, he instantly raised the black blade in his hand and cut along the top of the thing. With the doctor's groan of pain, the thing wrapped in clothes was picked up dozens of meters away.

Charles lowered his head to look at the doctor's chest and was immediately shocked by the hideous wound. He saw that a large piece of skin on the left side of the doctor's abdomen was gone, revealing the sharp ribs.

"Oh my god, what did you put in your clothes!"

"I didn't put anything in there!! What was underneath your clothes was your mask!" the painful doctor said, and took out a handful of powder and poured it on the wound with trembling hands.

"096?" Charles turned his head and looked at the ground, only to see a pale clown with a flesh-and-blood mask hanging from its mouth moving out from the rags.

"The mask is alive?" Everyone stared with wide eyes at the ridiculous scene before them.

Without waiting for others to react, 096 gave the crowd a terrifying grin and rolled into the woods like a wheel.
