Relics, as special items in Earthsea, no one knows how they exist, and humans cannot decipher why they have these special abilities.
Humans have simply determined their abilities through their own crude explorations, and as long as the value produced by the good side outweighs the bad side, then it is a valuable relic.
On the contrary, if the relic has serious side effects, it is waste and its only fate is to be directly discarded or used to harm others.
But if you think about it carefully, this understanding is very one-sided. The so-called relics are not created for human use. Their creation has their own meaning.
There is something above the surface that can catalyze the production of new relics. We don't know what it is yet, but we can reasonably speculate that the relics of Earthsea are very likely to come from the surface.
Just as Charles was thinking about this, a sudden flash of inspiration came into his mind, and a very scary guess appeared in Charles' mind.
"Anna, what do you think... Is it possible that something from outer space is slowly approaching Earth, gradually causing objects on Earth to become relics, and eventually causing the complete extinction of surface civilization, so the Foundation brought the remaining people to Earthsea?!"
Hearing Charles's guess, Anna shook her head. "It doesn't matter whether it's true or not. It happened 1,000 years ago. Why do you care?"
"And according to what you said, that's not right. So where do you think the gods of Earthsea came from?"
"Maybe-"
Before Charles could finish his sentence, Anna interrupted him. "Don't say it anymore. Are you planning to change your career to study the history of the past? Haven't you noticed that your ears have grown?"
Charles was stunned at first, then he reached for his dark ear hole and unexpectedly touched a human ear.
When Charles walked in front of a mirror, he found that his ears were really back. Not only that, but the missing flesh and blood on his face was also filled again.
However, the flesh and blood used for filling was dark red, obviously not Charles' own flesh and blood, and it looked a bit like a flame-shaped blood clot.
The two colors of skin on his face now merged together to form a human face. It looked indescribably weird.
"This... what's going on?" Charles touched his severed hand and found that it had only grown a little forward, but there was no sign of limb regeneration.
"This medium also has the ability to heal human physical injuries, but it's not of much use." Piper answered Charles's question.
"It seems that the piece of flesh has moved to your face and filled the missing part. This is not bad. At least it looks much better than your previous skull head." Anna said jokingly, touching the new flesh on his face.
After a careful inspection, Charles found that it was only a change in appearance, so he didn't care too much. In fact, he didn't care too much about the appearance.
"We also need something that can block the radiation from the relic. Do you have any ideas?"
Even though the Narwhal can now fly, exploration cannot proceed unless this situation is resolved.
Otherwise, once we get on board, all the food and fuel on the ship will turn into relics of unknown capabilities, making it impossible to carry out further exploration.
Piper nodded his terrifying head at Charles. "I had already thought about this issue before you came back. The organisms used for isolation will be delivered to your ship before you set off."
Charles sneered in his heart, thinking that he was indeed hiding something from others. These monsters living in the sea of fog might be more powerful than all the humans on the earth.
Seeing that the problem was solved, Charles didn't want to say anything more. After briefly discussing the details, he let Piper leave.
The huge black and white floating worm disappeared, and Charles couldn't wait to rush out. He wanted to experiment with his new abilities.
Since his tentacle ability has been enhanced, his lightning ability should also be enhanced.
However, just as Charles was about to walk out, a pair of soft white hands gently hugged Charles' neck from behind. They were Anna's hands.
A voice with a hint of resentment sounded in Charles' ears, "Charles, if you go, you may not come back... I am really worried about you."
Charles could sense his wife's affection. "Anna, don't worry, I'm ready. I estimate that my current strength should be at level 12."
"What's the point of being prepared? What's the point of being strong? What danger have you encountered that can be solved by preparation and strength? Don't go. It may be possible to find darkness, but if we don't find darkness, we may be able to survive by other means."
Charles' pupils shrank slightly, and he quickly turned around and looked at Anna. "Have you found another way?"
"New Territory City, do you remember? We can live there. As long as we seal the gap, it will be a perfect refuge."
"With Dawn-1 there, food can definitely be grown, and fresh water can be extracted from seawater."
Charles was not happy at all when he heard Anna's plan. "How many people can New Territory City accommodate? I guess it can't even hold the people of Hope Island."
"As long as we have enough food, that's all we need. This will be our new home from now on, and we can live there safely forever."
Charles looked at Anna with some strangeness, "Do you know what the consequences of doing this are? If this matter is exposed, the entire Earthsea Alliance will collapse in an instant. They will no longer fight for everything in the pursuit of darkness, but will kill each other for the hope of survival!"
"Don't worry, they won't be able to find us. I've sent Shan Shan to watch over us. Besides, I didn't say not to let them go looking for darkness. They can go looking for it. I just don't want you to go. We have a way out now." Anna smiled and blinked.
Charles thought about it carefully and patted Anna on the shoulder. "No, I may be a selfish person, but if I do this, I am afraid that even I will look down on myself, which is equivalent to betraying everyone."
Anna's face showed a trace of annoyance, and a black-scaled tentacle stretched out from her chest and directly knocked Charles' arm away.
"Why don't you listen when I talk to you? The God of Light died at the hands of those guys in the sky! Do you think you are more powerful than the gods or something?"
Seeing Anna's dissatisfaction, Charles patiently explained: "I know. But we can't escape. This is the fate we must face. Earthsea is the last living space for mankind. This is no longer the difference between one or two lives. This is related to the fate of all mankind."
"And I would rather die on the road to darkness than live a humble life in a closed underground cave for the rest of my life."
