Shrouded Seascape

Chapter 97: Fake city

Views:

Charles thought that it would take some effort for them to climb over this huge wall, but after just a little search, he saw many small doors at the bottom of the wall, and it seemed that this wall was not built to defend against humans.

With Charles' gentle wave of his hand, the group slowly walked into the fortress-like island.

As soon as Charles walked through the tunnel with thick walls, he was stunned by the scene before him.

If he had not just been on the sea, he would have thought he had returned to the surface.

Inside the wall are rows of neatly arranged modern buildings. In addition to the ordinary high-rise buildings, there are fast food restaurants, mobile phone stores, clothing stores and everything else at the bottom of the buildings.

There is a city inside, a modern city with no one in it.

Time has left no traces on these buildings. Everything here looks so clean and tidy, without even a speck of dust on the ground.

Under normal circumstances, this would be impossible. The ship outside had only been docked for two months and was already covered in dust. And this city had been built for who knows how many years, it was definitely impossible for it to be so new.

"Dude, does this architectural style look familiar to you?" Richard approached a supermarket and put his face against the transparent glass to look at it.

"Foundation." Charles thought of the ruins on the island in 1002. Judging from the distribution structure, if those ruins were in good condition, they should look like this now.

The Foundation comes from the surface, so there's a chance that the exit might be in this city.

Even Charles was surprised by this kind of city, let alone the crew members on the Narwhal. They had been jaw-dropping ever since they came in.

Everyone stared in amazement at the strange building in the dark, their hands holding weapons clenched and relaxed from time to time.

Charles turned the door handle of a supermarket with his hand, pushed the door open and walked in.

The furnishings inside are almost the same as those in Walmart, but compared to the bustling supermarket, this place is empty and a little eerie in its quietness.

"Mr. Charles, is this the computer that you mentioned that can play animations?" Lily jumped onto the cash register and asked curiously.

Charles didn't reply, but walked quickly over to check the cash register behind the counter.

He soon discovered that there was something wrong with this thing. Although it looked very much like a supermarket cash register, there was no data cable connection underneath it.

"Buzz~!" The rapidly rotating chainsaw emerged from Charles' prosthetic limb and cut directly towards the cash register.

Soon the machine was cut open by Charles, and he found that there were no computer chips inside, but only a simple empty shell.

"What do you think?" Charles' eyes swept towards the cash registers at other exits. If he guessed correctly, those things should be decorations just like the one in his hand.

"You ask me, who should I ask? Who is so bored that they built a fake supermarket?" Richard controlled his prosthetic limbs to grab the place where the money was placed and pulled hard.

All kinds of banknotes and coins they had never seen before popped out from it.

Charles picked up a piece with his right hand and found that although this kind of banknote looked like currency, its texture was very rough. This money was fake just like the machine.

Charles suddenly thought of something and rushed into the supermarket, quickly checking the various goods. As he expected, both daily necessities and various clothes were similar in appearance but not truly usable.

And everything where there should have been text was a blurry, distorted mess.

“Why do I feel like I’ve run into some big shot’s 1:1 supermarket figurine? Could it be the “god” in the water? I didn’t expect the “god” to have such a homely hobby.”

Hearing Richard's guess, Charles shook his head and said, "No, think about the footprints on the ship. There are creatures in this place. These things may have been made by those things."

Charles put down the things in his hand, looked out of the glass door, and muttered to himself: "I'm afraid it's not just the supermarket that's fake..."

Finally, under the leadership of Charles, everyone rushed into those magnificent high-rise buildings.

Looking at the furnishings inside that were exactly the same as in reality, Charles seemed to have returned to the modern era again. There was even an elevator in the building.

But a quick inspection will reveal that this elevator is also fake. The outer door of the elevator has been cut open with prosthetic limbs, and the inside is solid, and there is not even an elevator shaft.

Charles led everyone up the stairs to the second floor.

"Everyone, go to the room and search for clues. If you find anything with words or pictures, give it to me immediately. Meet every half an hour. If you see any danger, shoot to warn the first time."

Charles followed a group of doctors. They walked into a room that looked like an office and started rummaging through drawers.

Five minutes later, he walked out with a disappointed look on his face and headed towards another room next door. Seeing the crew members coming in and out of the room, Charles knew that they definitely didn't have any clues.

After clearing out another house, Charles, who was a little impatient, prepared to leave with his crew.

But just after he stood up, he half-crouched with his hands covering his head, a painful expression on his face, and the murmured sound rang out again, and it was much louder than before.

He put his hands on his head and stumbled towards the next room where the doctor was.

After taking two steps, Charles saw a humanoid monster with deformed limbs all over its body walking towards him.

The monster saw Charles's appearance, walked up to him with bloody legs, and supported him with his limbs.

Glancing at the bloody robe on the monster, Charles said to it in pain: "Doctor, something is wrong. My hallucinations have started again. Is there any medicine to help me suppress it?"

The monster opened its deformed long lips as if saying something, and then handed over a squirming white mass of flesh from its flesh robe.

Charles took the meat ball with his hand and put it into his mouth and took a bite. Instantly, the pungent smell of blood burst into his mouth. Charles suppressed his nausea and kept swallowing the meat ball.

Just at this moment, he saw a figure walking in from the door. It was none other than his ship's doctor.

With a "pop", the wine jug in the doctor's hand suddenly fell to the ground with a terrified expression.

"Oh my god!! Charles, what on earth are you eating-wait! What the hell is that thing standing next to you!!"

Charles raised his head in shock, his eyes meeting the monster's cross-shaped pupils.

The chainsaw on Charles' prosthetic arm instantly extended out and began to spin rapidly.

Just as he was about to raise his hand to chop at the monster beside him, he felt a strong sense of dizziness in his head.

The dizziness quickly took away Charles' strength and will.

The last thing he saw as he fell to the ground was a huge, scaly foot with six deformed fingers that matched the footprints on the boat exactly.
