Supreme God

Chapter 211: Moses met God on Mount Horeb

Views:

Since Moses came to the land of Midian, Moses' life has become much more comfortable, and he can enjoy a life that he has never enjoyed before.

After he was born, although he was adopted by an Egyptian princess, he was often insulted in the court because of his Hebrew characteristics that emerged as he grew up.

Later, after his adoptive mother died of illness, he was also deprived of the right to live in the palace and could only live outside.

Later, because the sun god Aten wanted to usurp the position of the main god of his brother god Amun, the Egyptian royal court experienced decades of chaos. Several pharaohs failed to leave any heirs, and the capitals were moved around.

Of course, these have nothing to do with Moses. He lived in the city of Thebes, the capital of hundreds of gates, got to know his family, and knew his identity as a Hebrew.

Then, he looked at the suffering of his tribe and began to use his profound knowledge to seek fair treatment for his tribe. Even for this reason, he failed to find a wife even when he was forty years old.

However, reality slapped Moses hard in the face. He killed the Egyptian soldiers because he helped the Hebrews, but was accused by the two Hebrews who were helped by him, and began his life of escape.

Fortunately, Sisyphus, the messenger of the stars, who ascended the throne of God from a human being, helped him, allowing him to escape the pursuit of the Egyptians and reach the land of Midian safely.

It was a land controlled by people of their own kind, who worshiped the same god who created and was worshiped by their ancestors.

Reuel, the most influential elder in the land of Midian, welcomed the arrival of Moses and gave his youngest daughter Zipporah, the pearl of Midian, in marriage to Moses.

After that, Moses began herding life in Midian.

It was said that he was shepherding the sheep, but in fact it was Moses who had nothing to do and took over the work of his servants. He liked to herd sheep, watch the sunset with Zipporah on the edge of the desert, argue with Sisyphus on the meadow, and meditate on the holy mountain.

During these times, Moses had even forgotten the people who suffered in Egypt, or he did not want to think of them.

Especially after his son Geshun was born, he no longer had the mind to think about things that seemed far away from him.

In the land of Midian, everything was peaceful. The only thing that dissatisfied him was that his wife, Zipporah, was no longer as pious as before in her belief in God. Sometimes they even say some incomprehensible words, saying that it is better to ask God for help than to ask yourself to make progress.

Moses was very dissatisfied. They worshiped and worshiped God, but it was not to get help from the gods. This was just to respect the covenant made by their ancestors and God, and to keep God in the hearts of their people forever.

It is indeed right to strive for progress on your own, but what does this have to do with belief in gods, and there is no need to ask gods for help.

Moses knew why. It is said that a few years before he came to Midian, Zipporah was a woman who believed deeply in the gods. But at that time, there was a man and a woman, who were said to be gods, living in the only temple of an Egyptian god here, and taught Zipporah how humans can become gods.

Ever since she learned that humans could become gods, Zipporah lost her original respect for gods. According to her own words, she is already a demigod. In a few years, maybe she can become a god, and then she can protect the people of Midian by herself.

Zipporah did not continue to say the next words, but Moses roughly knew after thinking about it that she meant that the gods almost never answered them.

Moses always felt that what Zipporah was thinking was wrong. This should not be what the Israelites thought. They should have worshiped God since they were born.

After years of exchanges, Moses had completely lost his intention to change Zipporah's attitude. He put all his energy into cultivating his son Geshun.

However, one time when he was having a routine debate with Sisyphus, his son Geshun marveled at Sisyphus's deeds and actually worshiped Sisyphus as his teacher.

Who is Sisyphus? Moses already knew very well that he came from outside the territory with the Lord of the Stars. Before he became a god, he had kidnapped the God of Death outside the territory to prevent death from appearing in the world.

Although his wife Zipporah no longer worships the gods as she once did, she still worships the gods in general. She often reminds him and warns him even in some ordinary details: "Since you claim to worship the gods, then in some extremely extreme things We must also pay attention to the subtleties and not violate the agreement between our ancestors and the gods.”

But Sisyphus was different. Except for his incomparable worship of the Lord of the Stars, he almost disdained all gods. The reason why he worships the Lord of the Stars is not how great this god is, but because this god once visited the human world, preached to the world, and created a method for humans to become gods. The method that his wife Zipporah learned was created by this god.

Moses naturally admired such a god. However, he had followed his ancestors and became the people of their god, so he could only be the people of God. No matter how great other gods are, they will not affect the glory of God in his heart.

Moses had not been far away from asking Sisyphus to become his son's teacher, but he could not bear the invitation of his wife and son, so he made a bet with Sisyphus.

They decided that they would both guess the outcome of the Hittite-Egyptian war, and the correct person would win the bet. If Sisyphus guesses correctly, his son will become Sisyphus's student; if Moses guesses correctly, Sisyphus will stay away from his son Gershon.

In the end, both of them guessed wrong at the same time. This was a war with no victory or defeat. So Moses discussed with Sisyphus that Sisyphus could only teach his son how to become a god, but he could not say anything else to him.

After that, Moses paid more attention to the education of his son, and often told Geshun some past events, about the past events of their Israelites.

He started from the first ancestors, Adam and Eve, to Cain who was expelled, to Abraham, the father of many nations, to Isaac, the ancestor from whom the Israelites were named, and to Jacob, who allowed the Israelites to gain status in Egypt.

He wanted Ge Shun to find something that moved him from the history of their ancestors and develop an admiration for God. When Moses was living in the royal court of Egypt, his biological mother could only act as a wet nurse for him and could not teach him to read. She could only tell their history one by one.

Moses benefited from this and believed in God devoutly. He also hoped that his son could develop a sense of identity with the Israelites from these histories.

After telling the history to his son on this day, Moses led the flock of his father-in-law Reuel toward a distant mountain.

This is the only high mountain in this desert land. The mountains are lush and green, which is extremely asymmetrical to the yellow sand and grassland everywhere here.

It is said that this mountain suddenly appeared here when the Midianites first moved here. The Midianites claimed that it was a mountain created by gods, and called it Mount Heli, also known as the Mountain of Gods.

Mount Horeb was full of thorns, but Moses still liked to stay here and think quietly by himself, especially after he failed to argue with Sisyphus, he would even sleep on the ground in the wild.

That night, he was often guided by the gods, and messengers of gods often entered his dreams and imparted knowledge to him.

When Moses once again sat under a big tree, thinking quietly, suddenly the bushes not far from him burst into flames. In the light of the fire, these bushes were not damaged at all.

Moses had doubts in his mind, so he started walking towards the bush. He wanted to know what kind of bush it was that could be so miraculous.

"Moses, Moses."

Suddenly, a gentle voice emerged from the fire of the bush, calling Moses over.

"Here I am, who calls me from among the magical thorns?"

Moses faintly saw some vague human shapes in the firelight of the bush, so he walked there.

"Don't come near. The mountain you set up is a holy mountain, and the place you stand on is holy ground. You must also take off your shoes." As if he understood Moses' doubts, this gentle voice reported him. Name: "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Jehovah is my name, and this will be my title among your people."

Moses was surprised and delighted because he did not expect that the gods would appear in front of him. So Moses took off his shoes and covered his eyes. He was not allowed to look directly at their God. This was what Moses had been taught since he was very young.

His biological mother, her wet nurse, had told him many times that God could not be looked at directly.
