The Heartbeat Lies

Chapter 22

Suddenly, it was dark. Wearing a baseball cap, Yu Nuo lowered his head and looked at his wrist.

There were many people around, and the lights were not very bright. Chen Yuzheng put one hand behind his back and held her.

The shadows of the two people overlapped.

His hands were warm, his fingertips were neatly trimmed, and his joints were straight and long.

She didn't use much force, she was stunned, her fingers curled up slightly, she was quiet and motionless.

After the crowd dispersed, Chen Yuzheng let her go.

Yu Nuo tightly grasped the strap of her bag.

The glass windows next to them cast neon lights and their reflections.

Chen Yuzheng didn't say anything, and she also remained silent, walking slowly along the bustling street.

As the shop was about to close, intermittent singing could be heard from the shop next door. Yu Nuo lowered his head and said, "Thank you for today."

"Thank me for what?"

""

Yu Nuo's mind was still a little stiff and he couldn't process it.

I don’t know what to say or how to say it.

Chen Yuzheng might have just finished crying in the bathroom, so he didn’t hang up the phone.

But at that moment, Yu Nuo felt a lump in his nose.

A silent silence, at the other end, accompanied her quietly.

His unintentional tenderness made Yu Nuo feel as if the sadness she had secretly concealed was comforted.

Yu Nuo secretly observed him, "It seems like every time I'm in front of you, I'm in a mess."

Chen Yuzheng smiled and said casually, "Did you do that on purpose?"

She was a little unresponsive. "Huh?"

"nothing."

""

She glanced at him again, and seeing that he didn't frown or show any impatience, she felt relieved. Yu Nuo was a bit dull. Her parents divorced when she was young, and her stepmother had a bad temper. As time went by, she became very cautious in everything she did at home, fearing that she would say or do something wrong, and she gradually became less talkative.

Later, when she was alone with others, she would always think for a long time before responding to what her friends said.

Yu Nuo actually wanted to thank Chen Yuzheng, but when the words came to his lips, he just didn't know how to say it.

Chen Yuzheng stopped at the door of a barbecue restaurant.

Yu Nuo also stopped with him and asked, "What's wrong?"

He looked at her for a while and said, "I'm hungry. Come eat something with me."

Yu Nuo: "Didn't you just finish your meal?"

"You are young, but you need to grow up."

The two of them sat down in the store, and the waiter asked them what they wanted to eat. Yu Nuo hadn't eaten much just now, but when she smelled the aroma of noodles, she looked at the sign and ordered a bowl of egg fried noodles.

The waiter asked Chen Yuzheng, and he said, "Same as her."

The lights in the small shop were bright, but business was not very good, with only the two of them as customers. Yu Nuo felt a little embarrassed, looking around, taking in the decoration of the shop.

Chen Yuzheng looked at her for several seconds, "Why were you crying just now?"

"Um?"

"Broken heart?"

Yu Nuo lowered his head and denied "no"

Yu Nuo remained silent for a long time, so long that Chen Yuzheng thought he would not get her answer any more.

"Because of my family's affairs."

Chen Yuzheng kept staring at her quietly. Yu Nuo suddenly felt a little embarrassed. She pursed her lips subconsciously and tried to control her emotions.

She grabbed the water glass on the table, took a sip, and then said, "My mother just wanted to talk to me about something. It's nothing."

Although she forced a smile, the sorrow in her eyes was obvious, and she looked a little pitiful without realizing it, which could not be hidden at all.

Chen Yuzheng thought thoughtfully, "Aren't your parents divorced?"

Yu Nuo nodded in a depressed mood.

Soon two bowls of steaming hot noodles were served. Yu Nuo picked out the coriander and ate it slowly, one bite at a time.

She ate for a while and secretly looked at Chen Yuzheng several times.

He seemed to have barely moved his chopsticks.

Yu Nuo thought about it and stopped, "Is this noodle not to your liking?"

“Not hungry.”

Yu Nuo ""

It's a dull moment again.

She didn't know how to find a topic. Yu Nuo suddenly felt uncomfortable. After a while, he asked hesitantly, "Chen Yuzheng, can I have some more wine?"

Chen Yuzheng sat there, a little surprised, then raised his eyebrows, "You can still drink?"

Yu Nuo nodded affirmatively.

She didn't want the atmosphere to be so awkward, helpless and heavy.

According to Fu Yidong, she seems to talk a little more after drinking.

Chen Yuzheng: "As you wish."

Another dozen beers were served.

Yu Nuo filled a cup, took a small sip, took two deep breaths, and drank it in one gulp.

The beer tasted slightly bitter when it entered his throat, but it wasn't strong. After holding his breath, it tasted like water and wasn't hard to drink. After drinking a glass, Yu Nuo wiped the liquid from the corners of his mouth and poured himself another glass.

Chen Yuzheng didn't stop her, and asked slowly, "Sister, are you so fierce?"

Yu Nuo smiled shyly, avoiding his gaze. For once, she made a joke, "Just think of me as someone who is drinking to drown his sorrows."

She hadn't planned to drink too much, just enough to be tipsy and still able to chat.

But as I drank more, the dizzy feeling came back. This feeling was very fresh, as if all my troubles had disappeared.

As they drank, the cup in Yu Nuo's hand was taken away.

After a moment of confusion, Yu Nuo went to grab it and said, "I haven't had enough to drink yet."

Chen Yuzheng poured a glass of boiled water, picked it up, and handed it to Yu Nuo. "This is the last glass. Let's go after you finish it."

"The last one?" Yu Nuo looked at the glass of water in his hand and nodded solemnly, "Okay, the last one."

She tilted her head back and drank it.

Chen Yuzheng looked at her with a half-smile, "How does it taste?"

Yu Nuo's face turned pale, her eyes were clear, "I don't think I'm drunk yet." She burped, "I can still have a few more drinks."

"Not drunk yet?"

Yu Nuo hummed vaguely and picked up the half-remaining bottle of beer.

Chen Yuzheng tried to block him, but Yu Nuo pushed his hand away and said, "Let me drink a little more, and then I'll talk to you."

His articulation is quite clear.

Chen Yuzheng paused for two seconds, leaned over slightly, and pulled her up from her seat. "Are you so mad after drinking so much?"

At this time of night, almost all the shops on the street have closed.

Yu Nuo refused to let the people beside her support her, muttering, "I'm really not drunk." She pushed Chen Yuzheng away, "If you don't believe me, I'll walk in a straight line for you to see."

She opened her eyes wide, looked at the white line on the ground, and opened her hands as seriously as if she was walking on a balance beam.

Chen Yuzheng followed slowly behind him.

After walking for a while, Yu Nuo turned around, squinted his eyes and called him "Chen Yuzheng?"

He hummed.

“Am I walking straight?”

Chen Yuzheng nodded.

Yu Nuo continued walking with satisfaction. As she walked, she felt someone chasing her, so she started running again. In the dark, she bumped into something and fell to the ground.

When the wound from last time was rubbed, tears immediately appeared in her eyes.

Time seemed to be extended infinitely, and someone next to her pulled her up from the ground.

A light smell of tobacco lingered at the tip of his nose. Yu Nuo's brain was paralyzed, and he closed his eyes and leaned towards the man.

Chen Yuzheng stopped.

He lowered his head slightly, raised his hand, and wiped away her tears.

"Give me the phone."

Yu Nuo sat on the bench and took two seconds to react.

Chen Yuzheng: "Call your friend." Yu Nuo immediately shook his head: "I don't want to go back."

Chen Yuzheng patiently asked, "So what do you want to do?"

Yu Nuo said seriously, "I want to go to the beach to watch the sunrise."

She patted the seat next to her and said, "Sit down. I want to talk to you."

Yu Nuo pondered for a while and asked, "Do you want to hear a story?"

Chen Yuzheng took the time to cooperate with her while on the phone, "What's the story?"

"fairy tales."

""

My cousin called out twice more from the other end, "What the hell are you talking about? Where are the people?"

Chen Yuzheng looked calm and said, "Drive a car over here."

"It's so late, why do you need a car?"

Yu Nuo has already started to talk nonsense, "Do you want to hear about the Little Mermaid, the Ugly Duckling, or the Little Match Girl? I also know Thumbelina."

"You can talk as you like."

"Then let me tell you about the little match girl."

Chen Yuzheng nodded, switched the phone to the other side, and told his cousin the address.

Yu Nuo thought he was talking to him, but couldn't hear clearly, so he leaned forward and asked, "What did you say?"

Her head was dizzy and she tried hard to follow his mouth shape, her ears were still buzzing.

Chen Yuzheng stared at her and hung up the phone.

Seeing that he stopped talking, Yu Nuo's eyes were filled with tears, and she felt a little helpless. "I'm sorry, my right ear is not very good at hearing. Can you say it again?"

Chen Yuzheng leaned over, stopped when he was close to her, and asked in a low voice, "Can you hear me?"

Yu Nuo nodded slowly.

Chen Yuzheng tilted his head, lowered his eyelids, and almost leaned close to her ear.

"I say, you're pretty cute when you're drunk."
