Yan Bubu looked around, trying to find a rope or something, but there was nothing around, only rubble and broken bricks. He saw a row of houses not far away that had not collapsed, and under the light from the ceiling, he could clearly see the words "office" on the doorplate.
"Hold on for two more minutes, I'll find something to save you! You must hold on!" Yan Bubu ran towards the house, shouting as he ran: "Stay away from the cracks, stand there and wait for me, Binunu, watch them..."
Although the house had a signboard of an office, it had never been used. The door was closed, and there was an overturned ash bucket on the steps, with white ash used for painting the walls scattered all over the floor.
Yan Bubu pushed the door but it didn't open, so he took two steps back and then rushed forward, kicking the door open with a fierce kick.
The room was empty except for two ash buckets placed against the wall and a few plastic ropes used to tie up cardboard boxes scattered on the ground.
Although these plastic ropes were not too brittle and could not support the weight of an adult, there was nothing else in the house except these ropes.
Yan Bubu grabbed the ropes and hurried back, tying the two ends together as he ran. The four children followed his instructions and did not approach the crack, but stretched their necks to look down, while Binunu stood in front of them.
Yan Bubu quickened her pace and rushed to the crack. Seeing that the guide was still hanging in the air, she finally felt relieved. But she had been holding the iron bar for too long, and both of her arms were shaking. It seemed that she could not hold on for much longer.
He quickly let one end of the rope down: "This rope will break, and I can't pull you up, but you can hold on to it and slide down a little. Even if the rope breaks, you won't get hurt. Do you understand?"
The guide nodded with difficulty: "...I understand."
The rope was long enough to reach the ground. There was nothing around the crack to fix the rope, so Yan Bubu wrapped the rope around his waist a few times, sat down, and put his feet on the other side of the crack.
"It's okay!" He roared downwards, took a deep breath, and placed his feet on the other side of the crack.
The guide grabbed the plastic rope beside him and hung his whole body on it.
Although Yan Bubu was prepared, he was still suddenly dragged forward by the force on his waist. Fortunately, he kicked with both feet on the opposite side and was not pulled into the crack.
When the four children next to him saw him sliding towards the crack, they all screamed in fear, and the two older boys quickly grabbed his arms and pulled him back.
The guide slid down quickly, and when he was still one level above the ground, the rope broke with a bang.
Yan Bubu and the two children fell backwards to the ground. He got up and looked at the crack, and saw that the guide's antelope quantum beast had caught her and was holding her steadily on its back.
"Are you okay?" Yan Bubu asked loudly.
The guide was probably afraid of attracting zombies that had entered the city, so he didn't dare to respond loudly. He just nodded to indicate that he was fine.
Yan Bubu said, "Go find the army, I will take these kids with me."
The girl mouthed "thank you" and, not daring to stay any longer, jumped off the antelope's back and ran towards the direction of the gunshots.
Yan Bubu wiped the sweat off his forehead and turned to face the four children. Seeing that they were all looking at him eagerly, he said, "We have to continue on our journey. Can I carry the two children on my back and the older one can walk on his own?"
