Chapter 2

Yan Bubu squatted under the table, surrounded by darkness. He cried for help at first, but after a while, he was no longer so scared, and even felt bored, picking at the table leg at his feet.

When there was a sudden movement outside and light shone into this cramped space, he squinted uncomfortably and saw a thin figure against the light.

"Yan Bubu, come out." A clear voice with a hint of fatigue and hoarseness sounded, and the figure stretched out his hand to him.

After the two looked at each other for a few seconds, Yan Bubu's eyes lit up and he whispered, "Master."

He was carried out, hugged Feng Chen's neck tightly, and buried his face in his shoulder.

Just as Feng Chen was holding the person and retreating, there was another aftershock, and the wooden table where Yan Bubu had just hidden was crushed to pieces by the rocks.

Feng Chen freed his hands to pinch Yan Bubu's shoulders and back: "Does it hurt?"

Yan Bubu sniffed and shook his head: "It doesn't hurt."

The curly hair on his head swayed with this movement, brushing softly across Feng Chen's neck.

Feng Chen pinched his arms and thighs, and pressed his abdomen and chest a few times.

"Does it hurt here?"

"It doesn't hurt."

Feng Chen put the man down, and Yan Bubu held his clothes and looked around in a daze.

The villa was in ruins, and everything was unrecognizable. Yan Bubu asked in panic, "Master, where are we now?"

Feng Chen said hoarsely: "We are still at home, but there was an earthquake and the house collapsed."

Yan Bubu was startled at first, then became nervous: "What about my mother?"

Feng Chen pursed his lips and said nothing, only raising the back of his hand to wipe the sweat from his forehead.

Yan Bubu tugged at the corner of his clothes and begged, "Master, I want my mother."

There was no response, so Yan Bubu gradually raised her voice and pulled Feng Chen by the corner of his clothes, shaking him left and right.

"I want my mother, Master, I want my mother, where is my mother?"

Feng Chen finally said, "I didn't see your mother. Maybe she went somewhere else."

Yan Bubu asked stubbornly: "Mom started to go to the main building, why did she go to other places?"

Feng Chen looked a little unhappy.

He walked back from the airport for several hours without even a sip of water, and his throat was so dry that the upper and lower walls of his throat were stuck together. He felt dizzy and his hands and feet were weak, probably because he had a low-grade fever again.

He first searched the ruins of the main building and saw the bodies of A-Mei and others. He also found the code box hidden by his father in the collapsed secret room.

Then Yan Bubu was found in the servants' room.

In just a few hours, his whole world had turned upside down, and he was no less scared than Yan Bubu, but he was restrained by nature, so he suppressed those emotions.

Yan Bubu's questioning left him powerless to resist. He didn't know how to answer and could only say in a distracted tone, "I didn't see your mother."

Yan Bubu turned towards the main building and stared at the ruins, as if she understood something, with tears in her eyes.

"Yan Bubu—"

Yan Bubu broke free from Feng Chen's hands, quickly climbed up the ruins, and pushed the longest column.

He pushed hard with his feet, his face was wrinkled and covered with gray marks, and veins bulged on his thin neck.

Feng Chen stood there and watched until the aftershock struck again, then he rushed to the ruins, picked him up without saying a word, and ran under the pile of rocks while holding him in his arms.
