Those Years When I Was a Dalao

Chapter 20: Second floor 13

"Butcher." The communicator lit up.

The butcher had just finished an exhausting conversation. He rubbed his brows tiredly and pressed the communicator. He heard a hurried voice coming from the other end of the communicator, mixed with noisy background noise.

The butcher's heart sank as his tiredness disappeared.

In the Star Prison, silence and order are the main themes here. Countless rules restrict the entire Star Prison and keep the crazy beasts firmly imprisoned - and now, he heard an unusual noise.

The sounds of footsteps, shouts, and things being dragged mixed together to create a busy and hurried scene.

"What happened?" The butcher looked back at the closed door. Inside the door was a conversation that had just ended - the audit team reached its audit results through conversation, observation and investigation.

The audit results include but are not limited to: whether the butcher has violated the management regulations, whether he has betrayed the Star Warden, whether he is out of control, whether he has posed a threat, etc.

Once the audit result leans towards a certain value, the Butcher will face an even worse situation - the self-purification process within the Star Prison.

"The Lone Wolf is dead."

The butcher paused for two seconds, his pupils contracted, and the words of the medical team leader flashed through his mind quickly.

"The situation on the scene is a bit complicated. You'd better come and take a look."

The butcher responded, hung up the communicator, and walked outside. His short and fat figure slowly grew taller as he walked, giving people the illusion of an awe-inspiring aura.

The Lone Wolf's cell was filled with busy prison guards, some checking corpses, some investigating the scene, some investigating surveillance... everything was available.

The butcher stopped at the door and looked into the cell through the busy crowd.

After that conversation, the butcher fully understood what the medical team leader meant.

After Lone Wolf was discharged from the hospital, he lived in a single room and was forced to stop doing any labor or activities that required him to go out. Although it was not solitary confinement, it almost isolated Lone Wolf from all the other prisoners.

In addition, the butcher also specially arranged two prison guards to follow the lone wolf around the clock to avoid any accidents.

With such a flawless arrangement, the lone wolf still died

The layout of the single cell is very simple. Apart from the independent bathroom, there is only a very limited space that combines the functions of a bedroom and a living room. There is a single bed on one side, a push-pull soft plastic table on the other side, and a simple storage cabinet on the other side against the wall. Apart from that, there are no other utensils.

Blood flowed out from the small toilet, spreading out wetly like a wantonly blooming flower, mocking everyone present.

“Butcher…” The prison guard presiding over the scene saw the butcher at a glance, hurried to him, and took him inside.

"The preliminary diagnosis is suicide." He and the butcher stopped in front of the bathroom.

The bathroom door was wide open, and in the open space between the toilet and the sink, there was a body leaning sideways. Due to the passage of time and death, the posture had changed a little, but one could vaguely see that the body was sitting with his knees hugged and his head down.

"How did he die?" The butcher walked around the blood and lifted up the lone wolf's head.

The lone wolf's expression was extremely calm and serene, without the slightest hint of ferocity.

"The deceased dug open the wound on his abdomen with his hands..." The prison guard paused and unconsciously lowered his voice: "The cause of death was heavy blood loss."

"Abdominal wound?" The butcher squatted down and pushed away the Lone Wolf's hands that were hugging his knees. His prison uniform was stained bright red here.

The butcher lifted up his prisoner uniform and stared at the wound that was dug out by his bare hands for a few seconds. The wound was huge and bloody, which made one almost imagine the madness and urgency of the other party when he did it.

"Humans have a sense of self-protection. In most cases, even if it is suicide, they will tend to choose a simpler method, because most troublesome ways of death will cause the suicide to have strong regrets and stop the suicide behavior."

The voice of the head of the medical team came from the side.

"As for a few special cases, such as the well-known hypnosis, hypnotizing others to commit suicide is basically impossible to succeed, because of human self-protection consciousness. When the hypnotic instructions conflict with the self-protection mechanism, the hypnotic instructions will not work."

"So, if this is suicide, considering the deceased's strong desire to die, hypnosis is basically ruled out."

The butcher stood up and looked at him.

"So, what else could have caused him to have such a strong desire to commit suicide?"

"The most likely reason is... an order from above." Glancing at the butcher's eyes, the head of the medical team continued, "Another possibility is fear."

"fear?"

"The fear of someone is even greater than the fear of death." The head of the medical team looked at the butcher: "I think we have got the explanation - why Jiang Yiyi must see him before leaving."

"A look at each other?" The butcher was puzzled.

"A look." The head of the medical team repeated calmly and firmly.

"impossible!"

The head of the medical team glanced at the butcher and walked out: "Why not?"

The butcher followed him, and the prison guard beside him hesitated: "Butcher?"

"Determine whether he committed suicide or was murdered." The butcher waved his hand at him and said, "Any abnormalities before? Report them to me."

The head of the medical team walked out of the cell, took a deep breath of fresh air in the corridor, and exhaled all the bloody smell in his nose.

The butcher followed behind him and made a well-reasoned analysis: "The objective reality is in front of us. Jiang Yiyi has gone to the third floor and it is impossible for him to do anything to Lone Wolf. Even if Lone Wolf is afraid of his existence, is it necessary for him to commit suicide if the other party cannot hurt him at all?"

The head of the medical team walked out of the cell, stood in the sun, looked at the prison guards coming and going, and asked another question: "I remember today is the day of your review? How is it?"

"I asked some questions, but it's still the same old story. What else can I do?"

"Really?" The head of the medical team turned to look at him, with an ambiguous tone: "Are you sure that your excessive favoritism towards Jiang Yiyi is okay?"

"Too partial?" The butcher repeated the word. "When have I ever been too partial to him?"

"From before until just now, you have been explaining that Jiang Yiyi could not have anything to do with Lone Wolf's death. But everyone knows that the reason for all this can only be Jiang Yiyi."

"Isn't the question I just raised a questionable point?" Butcher: "Since Jiang Yiyi couldn't do anything to him, why did he commit suicide out of fear?"

The head of the medical team looked at him and said, "Since he is so frightened that he is willing to dig open his unhealed wounds to commit suicide, do you think rational cognition will have any effect on him?"

"He's not even afraid of death, would he be afraid that Jiang Yiyi would come and kill him?"

"What is he afraid of?"

"That's up to you." The head of the medical team raised his eyes and asked the butcher, "Why do you favor Jiang Yiyi so much?"

"I don't!"

The head of the medical team stared at him for a few seconds, then suddenly smiled: "Maybe his answer is the same as yours."

The butcher didn't react and just stared at him blankly.

"The death quota on the second floor has never been filled, so having more lone wolves won't be a big deal." The head of the medical team softened his tone and changed the subject naturally: "But at least we can confirm... that the madman won't die."

"Huh?" The butcher was a little surprised by this conclusion.

"His condition has been improving and he will probably be back to normal before he is released from prison."

"So, Jiang Yiyi's so-called ending is... curing the madman and killing the lone wolf?"

The head of the medical team shook his head: "The madman got better on his own, and the lone wolf committed suicide. What does it have to do with Jiang Yiyi?"

Hearing this, the butcher turned to look at him in surprise again.

"Do you have any evidence?"

"it is known… "

"This guy won't leave any evidence behind." The head of the medical team reminded him, "So, if you don't want him to worry about you, you'd better remember this. These two things have nothing to do with Jiang Yiyi."

"The consequences of being targeted by him..." The head of the medical team gestured to the prison cell behind them: "It's not good."

“Then what you just said…” The butcher was puzzled.

"Let me confirm your condition." The head of the medical team looked down at the time and said, "The review team should talk to me now. I'm leaving now."

For the medical team leader, the death of a few prisoners is not really a matter worth worrying about - after all, it happens from time to time, but the possible problems with the managers are the top priority that deserves attention.

The conversation just now, the pressing questions and communication, were part of the process.

Because from the very beginning, the butcher, who was the actual manager of the second floor, and the medical team leader, who did not interfere in the management of the prison guards' affairs on the second floor, had a relationship of mutual supervision and restraint.

They are partners and supervisors.

"This is the situation." The medical team leader sat lazily in his chair and briefly repeated the situation to the review team.

The review team was made up of two unremarkable young men, who looked like passers-by who would not be looked at twice if they were walking in a crowd. They wore uniforms that were no different from those of prison guards, and only the small badge on their collars revealed their identity as supervisors.

"There is some bias..." One of the review team members said thoughtfully: "But logic, reason, and thinking are not affected..."

B was writing something on a piece of paper. Hearing this, he interrupted and said, "From the investigation, the key person is this Jiang Yiyi..." He stopped writing and looked up at the head of the medical team: "I think we need to contact the other party..."

"I don't recommend it." The head of the medical team interrupted him and said in a more serious tone: "Rather than wanting to investigate further, it's better to say that you are very interested in him, right?"

A twirled his pen and said noncommittally: "I need to determine how he influenced the butcher."

"I don't recommend you do this," the head medical team member repeated, "because... it's dangerous."

B lowered his head and wrote while saying: "But it's also very interesting, isn't it?"

He highlighted Jiang Yiyi's name, looked up and smiled at the head of the medical team: "Everyone is curious about what interesting secrets this guy has hidden behind his perfect resume."

"If you insist, I will submit a special report to the Star Warden." The head of the medical team was not curious - and he believed that the butcher would not be curious either.

Anyone who has come into contact with Jiang Yiyi will make the right choice.

a paused in spinning the pen and looked deeply at the medical team leader: "It seems like you have come to a conclusion?"

"Although he is now on the third floor, his danger is definitely not limited to the third floor." The head of the medical team said firmly: "According to the regulations for managers, floors below the fifth floor are independent. All managers of other departments are not allowed to investigate or contact him privately."

B kept writing and interrupted again: "Don't be so serious. If you insist, we have no reason to intervene. After all, we are only reviewing the butcher according to the application you submitted."

"Then let's turn the topic back to the butcher." A turned the pen again: "We have seen the surveillance footage of the butcher and Jiang Yiyi... There is no problem."

The head of the medical team was not surprised by this conclusion. He would be surprised if he could find any problems.

"So, now the problem is very simple. Either the butcher has some kind of affection for this prisoner that goes beyond specific emotions, causing him to unconsciously favor him..." a paused and grinned, "Or, Jiang Yiyi is a person with special abilities."

"A person with special abilities?" The head of the medical team showed a puzzled expression: "What is a person with special abilities?"

"This is beyond your authority." B looked up and said, "You only need to know that this means he is not a human being in the normal sense."

"Not a normal human being?" The medical team leader was puzzled. "Are you talking about super humans? Evolved new humans? This kind of sci-fi concept that is widely circulated on the Starnet?"

"I can't tell you too much. It's against the rules."

a gathered the messy documents on the table, held them in his hands, stood up, and looked down at the head of the medical team: "Although Jiang Yiyi's condition has not been further confirmed, most people with special abilities are like that."

b followed a's footsteps and walked out.

"When you stare into the abyss, the abyss also stares into you."

"Maybe Jiang Yiyi didn't do anything to the butcher, it's just..." a held the door handle and turned to look at the head of the medical team: "The butcher paid too much attention to him."

"Wait..." The head medical team leader was not sure what kind of hint he had received. It sounded outrageous and exaggerated, but he still subconsciously asked another question.

"Compared to the others, the butcher is not the one who pays the most attention to him..."

The head of the medical team caught a fleeting thought in his mind. The butcher's attention to Jiang Yiyi was just that of a troublemaker, but apart from him, other prisoners and prison guards paid more attention to Jiang Yiyi than he did.

a blinked at him: "Then we can only wish them good luck."

The medical team leader's expression changed.

B patted A's shoulder and said, "Don't tease him. Their sense of responsibility is much higher than ours. If you tease him too much, you can expect to be scolded if a report is submitted."

B stopped laughing and said seriously: "We will take over the next matter."

a shrugged. "The review team is not only responsible for reviewing managers. Our main job is to review the dangerousness of prisoners and then determine which floor they should go to."

"Since Jiang Yiyi is a person with special abilities..." A twisted the door handle: "It's not a good idea to leave the predator in the hunting grounds."
