"You three are really capable! You're still running away. Can you run away from the monk or the temple?"
Teacher Jiang sat in his chair and looked at the three people with a half-smile. It was hard to tell whether he was angry or not, but he made people feel inexplicably uneasy.
Cen Huaian and the other two lowered their heads and stood in front of Teacher Jiang. They were as well-behaved as kittens, not at all like the disciplinary students who had just jumped over the wall, were seen running away, and were caught by the dean of studies who ran into the classroom.
"Zhang Lu, you are the class monitor, how do you memorize the student rules?"
Zhang Lu quietly raised his head and glanced at the head teacher: "The first rule of the student code..."
"Stop." She just started to recite, but Teacher Jiang interrupted her: "Since you remember the student rules, which prohibit students from jumping over the wall to leave during class, did you forget to recite it?"
Zhang Lu shook his head and said, "Teacher, we didn't jump over the wall during class time. Now is exam time, we left after finishing the test."
"Isn't an exam not a class?" Teacher Jiang glared at her.
Zhang Lu nodded confidently: "No, it's an exam."
Teacher Jiang was so angry that she could hardly keep the smile on her face: "Zhang Lu, shut up! If you say another word, your punishment will be doubled!"
Zhang Lu immediately shut his mouth tightly.
Teacher Jiang looked at Cen Huaian and Tang Song again, with a look of disappointment on his face: "I thought you were the more sensible students in the class, but what happened? The better you perform in class, the more shocking things you do! Especially you, Cen Huaian, you have a day pass after school, so you can't go wherever you want? Why did you have to climb over the wall to run out!"
Cen Huaian was very honest: "Buy roasted sweet potatoes."
Teacher Jiang looked at him for a long time without saying anything. These students of his are really more talented than the other.
He took several breaths to calm himself down, looking at the three students who were still standing in front of him with obedient faces: "Each of you must write a 1,000-word self-criticism, and read it in front of the whole school during the flag-raising ceremony. If you don't run away, just make a self-criticism in class. This is the consequence of absconding from the crime! Also, after class, the three of you will patrol the playground wall. When you catch the next person climbing the wall, that's when you'll end the patrol."
Cen Huaian: "Teacher, I can write a 2,000-word self-criticism, can I not patrol?"
Zhang Lu: "Teacher, can I continue patrolling without writing a self-criticism?"
They both spoke at the same time, and Teacher Jiang snorted, "No."
Cen Huaian and Zhang Lu looked at each other, obediently accepted the punishment and walked out of Teacher Jiang's office.
Tang Song was about to say something when Zhang Lu grabbed Cen Huaian's arm and said, "I'll help you patrol, and you help me write a self-criticism."
"Deal." Cen Huaian said without hesitation.
Tang Song closed his open mouth.
Within one class period, Cen Huaian finished writing his and Zhang Lu's self-reviews, in two different styles.
As soon as the get out of class was over, Zhang Lu dragged Tang Song to the school wall, and walked with more confidence than the dean. When he saw a student approaching, he shouted, "Student, get away from the school wall! Otherwise, you will be skipping class by climbing over the wall!"
The students who were closer saw the red armband on Zhang Lu’s arm and ran faster than rabbits.
The ten minutes were almost over and the two hadn't caught a single student.
