Chapter 7: The Cat and the Old House (Part 2)

This scene was really unbelievable. I continued to walk into the yard and saw many fresh branches, leaves and flowers. Even though it is September already out of summer, it is still like spring here, and the fragrance of flowers can be smelled everywhere.

Bypassing the locust tree, the gate of the main house of the house appeared in front of me. The door was also wide open to me, as if the owner of the house was graciously welcoming me. But not only did I not feel the least bit of hospitality, but it was creepy.

Like all magnificent old houses, there are two colonnades on both sides of the gate, and a pair of couplets are engraved in thin gold on the pillars. The words on it are somewhat blurred, but I can barely read them.

"The contract of life and death is thousands of times long, and you have not known the king before you have parted."

What kind of ancient poem is this? Never heard of it.

There is also a plaque in the middle of the top of the door, but the strange thing is that there is nothing written on it, just an empty wooden board. I made up my mind, crossed the high threshold, and stepped into the house.

The room was very dark, and upon closer inspection, all the curtains were half-closed. The room is very big, like a living room or something. It is difficult for me to describe the furnishings in this room, because the things placed around it really give people the illusion of time and space.

The interior of the house is antique from the walls and floors to the tables, chairs and benches. The edges of the wood are blackened, full of a sense of age. But in contrast, there is a TV set on the mahogany table, an ipad on the low stool, and a soft Simmons mattress on the bed. The rest of the room is full of such ancient and modern furnishings, which is extremely weird.

But seeing these modern facilities, I was relieved in my heart. In this way, the owner of this house should not be some ghost.

"You came."

A voice came from behind suddenly, I was startled and turned around quickly. Behind me, that is, in the middle of the room, there is a looming gauze curtain, and the figure behind can be vaguely seen.

The voice was unusually familiar, but I couldn't remember where I heard it before. Before I could figure it out, the gauze curtain was lifted, and a man came out from inside. I was so surprised that I couldn't close my mouth - isn't this man the man I dreamed about in my dream yesterday!

The unknown man was still wearing the dark gown, with a monocle on the bridge of his nose. He had a handsome face and long hair, as if he had stepped out of an ancient costume TV series.

He didn't care about my exaggerated reaction. Instead, he picked up a pot of tea on the wooden table next to him, and poured the steaming hot tea into the cup. "Do you want tea? It's just brewed, but I don't know if you're used to bitter chrysanthemum."

As he said that he handed me the teacup, I subconsciously reached out to take it. But I didn't expect that the splashed tea accidentally scalded my fingers, and I couldn't hold it all at once, and the teacup fell to the ground with a crisp sound.

"Ah, yes, I'm sorry!" I hurriedly apologized.

Unexpectedly, the man didn't mean to be angry, but just showed a helpless expression, bent down to pick up the pieces of the teacup, "You, you are still so careless."

"I'm sorry..." I subconsciously apologized.

But this situation is not right, who is this person? Why is it in this kind of place? After all, I came here to look for the cat, right? Where is the dead cat

"It's okay, just sit down and rest for a while." The man smiled at me with his eyes bent.

"That..." Of course I didn't sit down, but looked at the man suspiciously, frowning, "Excuse me, do you know me?"

The man put down his teacup, stared at me for a few seconds, and then smiled, "I don't know you at all."

I was so angry that I almost vomited blood, what is this person doing! I don't know what kind of hospitality you pretend to be, you are greeting and pouring tea. I was about to say something more, but I heard a "meow" from behind the gauze curtain, and a black cat walked out with graceful steps.

"Gulu!"

I gritted my teeth, blaming this little beast running around for taking me to some inexplicable place.

"Is this your cat?" The man bent down and picked up the cat. The bad-tempered cat was actually very quiet in his arms, and even meowed contentedly.

"No, it's not." I quickly clarified, "This is my classmate's cat. This guy is running around. I accidentally broke in looking for it. I'm really sorry."

"Why apologize." The man stroked the fur on the cat's back, "What's your name?"

"Ah? Gu Yu." I replied subconsciously, "Gu who takes care of you, Yu Yu who takes care of you."

"Gu Yu." The man repeated my name slowly, and suddenly smiled, "It's very dangerous to just tell strangers my name casually."

What? I am baffled. "But isn't the name something that is used to tell strangers? Who emphasizes their name over and over again with acquaintances?"

"That's true. But even if you're a stranger, you have to be someone you trust, right?" He looked at me thoughtfully, "Gu Yu, do you trust me?"

Why does this person say some inexplicable things? I took a half step back vigilantly, neither nodding nor shaking my head.

"Let's introduce myself first." The man seemed to be amused by my actions, "The name will be kept secret for now. My surname is Wen, just call me Mr. Wen."

Mr. Wen sat down on the chair in the middle of the room and looked at me gently, "So, what do you want to ask?"

What do you want? I quickly waved my hand, "Well, you must have misunderstood. I came in by accident to find the cat, and now that the cat has been found, I will leave immediately!"

"Accidental?" Mr. Wen rested his fingertips on his chin, looked at me quietly, and smiled, "However, there is no 'accidental' in this world. Cats can eat fish, fish can swim, and water can eat fish." Flowing down, this is the "inevitable" result endowed by nature. None of the encounters, feelings, disputes, trusts and betrayals between people is "accidental". What happens in this world is different. Each has its own reasons. From this point of view, it is not accidental that you walked in here and met me. Or in other words, if you do not have a certain reason, you cannot walk in "accidentally". This store."

"Wait... shop?" I became more and more confused.

"You, do you have something very worrying about right now?" Mr. Wen's eyes were burning.

These words hit my heart like a sharp arrow.

Mr. Wen smiled and asked, "I said, before you came in, did you notice the plaque in front of the door? Is there anything written on it?"

I became more and more confused, "Attention is noticed, but... nothing is written on it."

Mr. Wen raised his chin, "How about going to the door to have a look?"

"Even if you watch it again..."
