Wild Star Lantern

Chapter 45

It was almost midnight when I returned to Chi Yan's house from the cinema.

Gu Jianian didn't say much along the way. After getting off the car, he walked through the parking lot and entered the elevator, following him quietly.

The two of them entered the house one after the other. After Gu Jianian washed up, he simply said good night to him and went back to the guest room to prepare for bed.

In order to make her live comfortably, Chi Yan decorated the originally simple guest room to be much cozier than the master bedroom these days. There were soft pillows and quilts, a large fan-shaped floor lamp was placed beside the bed, and the black curtains hanging in front of the window were changed to bright light yellow.

Gu Jianian specially ordered some sleep-aid aromatherapy, closed his eyes and took deep breaths, but he just couldn't fall asleep.

She turned over several times in a restless mood, then simply pulled up the quilt, sat up and leaned against the head of the bed, staring at the dark sky outside the window.

The summer night was cloudless, with a hint of blue in the darkness. A few scattered stars hung high in the sky, overlooking the lights of thousands of homes in the city.

Although school was about to start the next day, Gu Jianian did not feel excited at all. Instead, he felt heavy and breathless.

Whenever she closed her eyes, she could think of the smile on Chi Yan's face in the afterglow of the sunset in the private restaurant today.

It was an expression she had never seen before.

She had seen him being decadent, indifferent, and aloof; she had also seen him being determined, confident, and at ease; she had also seen him being full of affection when he kissed her.

But I have never seen someone as sad as tonight, so sad that I couldn't even hide my smile.

And this sadness, whether directly or indirectly, is related to Cheng Yushang.

If it is just because of a conflict at work or a conflict in writing concepts, anger or mutual contempt, these should not be the emotions.

So what exactly happened between them

Gu Jianian recalled Cheng Yushang's words word by word, trying to find some clues, but he was completely at a loss.

She opened her phone again and searched the keywords "Cheng Yushang, Yan Chi" in the browser. The web pages that popped up were either previous winners of the Muhua Award or some introductions to contemporary domestic writers on literary forums. There was no information indicating any connection between the two people.

Both of them are well-known writers, one has been famous for a long time, and the other is a rising star. They are also about ten years apart in age. Logically speaking, they really have little in common.

Gu Jianian thought for a while, threw off the quilt, stood up, turned the doorknob and walked out.

There was no light on in the living room, only in the kitchen.

Gu Jianian followed the light and found Chi Yan cooking in the kitchen.

Only then did she remember that he hardly touched his chopsticks for dinner today.

Probably hearing the voice, Chi Yan turned around and asked her with a smile: "Are you hungry?"

Gu Jianian walked over and tilted his head to look into the pot. He was using a single-person snow flat pot with boiling water in it, and only instant noodles were boiling in the boiling water.

She has lived here for so long and has never seen instant noodles in his house.

Gu Jianian's eyelids jumped, and he walked over to open the storage cabinet in the kitchen, and found that a whole cabinet of instant noodles had appeared in it at some point, neatly stacked and full.

The noodles were almost cooked. Chi Yan turned off the fire, took out the softened noodles, tore open the seasoning bag, skillfully added most of the seasoning, and mixed it twice.
