The Path of the Sage

Chapter 2246: Chasing Fang Yun

While the humans were talking here, the monsters were not idle either.

The monsters discussed for a long time but could not come to a conclusion, and finally the decision was made by the twelve emperors.

The twelve emperors' minds intertwined, and after just a few dozen breaths, they made a decision.

The Rat Emperor stood proudly on the mountain island, slowly rising, and said in a loud voice: "On behalf of the Yaoman tribe, I apologize to the four tribes. We were too rude before. From now on, except for Fang Yun, everyone in the four tribes can step onto the Hanging Mountain and enter the Ancient God Tower! Of course, if anyone wants to be with Fang Yun, they will be the enemy of our three hundred Yaoman!"

When these words were spoken, the four tribes were in an uproar. Those tribes that had old ties with Fang Yun looked embarrassed, while those tribes that had no close relationship with Fang Yun had their eyes shining.

An ape king of the Star Demon Barbarians shouted, "You Blood Demon Barbarians are talking nonsense. We will only believe you if all the kings swear in the name of the saints of the demon world and the Burial Valley."

Li Zhenggang hurriedly said: "My allies, don't trust the demons. They let us in on the surface, but they will definitely attack us secretly..."

Before Li Zhenggang finished speaking, he saw the Rat Secret Emperor suddenly swear an oath. He not only swore an oath to the demon world and the saints in the Valley of the Holy Burial, but also to his bloodline ancestors. It even caused a strange phenomenon, and blood light surrounded him. This was the famous blood oath. Not to mention the emperor, even if a big figure called the ancestor swore such an oath and violated it, he would still be skinned alive.

Afterwards, the other eleven demon kings all swore a blood oath, and some great demon kings of the five realms also joined in the fun and swore an oath.

All the monsters dispersed to both sides, revealing a passage in the middle leading to the white jade steps.

The area where the four-tribe coalition forces were located was quiet. Many people did not move, but they were watching Fang Yun who was starting to slow down with their peripheral vision.

"Let me try it first!" The Ape King actually released three rare treasures, rushed forward, and looked at the blood demons with extreme vigilance.

The Yuanwan King in the team sent a message urgently, saying, "Fang Yun is on good terms with Lie Sheng, they are both Star Demon Barbarians, and they are also allies of the human race. How can we abandon Fang Yun and leave?"

The Ape King actually ignored the Ape King.

King Yuanwan almost cursed, but he finally held it in.

Under the gaze of the people of all tribes, Yuan Fei Huang successfully stepped onto the white jade steps. When it stepped onto the stone steps, the mountain island turned into a point of light and flew into its brow.

Yuan Feihuang laughed loudly, then turned around and began to climb upwards. However, the white jade steps seemed to have a special power. Yuan Feihuang, like the other tribes who were climbing, took one deep step and one shallow step, and his speed was not very fast.

An ancient demon king who had no connection with Fang Yun also rushed forward and stepped onto the white jade steps safely.

Afterwards, people from the four-tribe coalition army headed towards the white jade steps one after another.

The coalition of four tribes completely collapsed.

Fang Yun was driving towards them at first, but now he immediately changed direction and fled into the distance.

"We can't let Fang Yun escape!"

"Catch Fang Yun!"

Those monsters didn't care about the coalition forces of the four tribes at all. They actually drove the mountains and islands and rushed towards Fang Yun shouting, like a group of bandits, with extreme desire flashing in their eyes.

Several great scholars of the human race and friends from other races became anxious.

But Fang turned around, waved to them, and said slowly: "You all go into the Ancient God Tower first, I will follow soon. If there are any good things, remember to leave some for me."

The crab spider rolled his eyes and said, "You have such a big heart."

Ye Hongyu frowned, hesitant.

Fang Yun smiled and said, "Then I will let those evil thieves see the methods of this saint."

As he spoke, Fang Yun injected the power of decay into the island.

Previously, the speed of Shandao's navigation was only over 300 miles per hour, but now it has skyrocketed to nearly 500 miles per hour, far exceeding all the monsters and barbarians.

This is the ocean, and speed determines everything. Everyone was relieved.

Ye Hongyu gritted his teeth and said loudly: "See you in the Ancient God Tower!" After that, he rushed towards the white jade steps without looking back.

The other great scholars were not indecisive people. They all knew or even witnessed the miracles created by Fang Yun, so they also rushed towards the Hanging Mountain decisively.

The crab spider's eyes flickered, and it shouted loudly: "Fang Xusheng, I still want to save you."

The other ancient monsters rolled their eyes at him. This couldn't be more false.

Fang Yun waved his hand to stop the crab spider from coming to the rescue.

The crab spider immediately said: "Okay, let's meet in the Ancient God Tower!" After that, he also rushed towards the white jade steps.

The rest of the people can only go to the white jade steps.

As Jing Lixiao walked towards the white jade steps, he looked back at Fang Yun. He thought about Lei Tingyu's incomplete evaluation of Fang Yun, the expressions of those great scholars just now, and the desire of the monsters to kill Fang Yun, and realized that Fang Yun's status was higher than he had imagined.

"Could it be that Fang Yun is really the next Yi Zhishi? Isn't he just a Jinshi who wrote a war poem that has been passed down through the ages? How can he be compared with Yi Zhishi? From what Ye Hongyu said, Fang Yun is younger than I thought?"

Jing Lixiao was full of doubts and asked He Mingyuan, with whom he had a good relationship before.

"Just ask him yourself." He Mingyuan usually had an extraordinary demeanor, but now he was too lazy to answer.

Jing Lixiao was one of the most powerful Confucian scholars in Haiya Ancient Land, and also the only genius from a semi-saint family in Haiya Ancient Land. He had never suffered such an injustice, and a hint of anger flashed in his eyes, but his cultivation as a great Confucian scholar allowed him to quickly suppress his anger.

Then, Jing Lixiao asked the other four great scholars, including Ye Hongyu.

Those four were even more rude than He Mingyuan. They didn't even look at Jing Lixiao, let alone reply.

Jing Lixiao snorted coldly, his face showing anger.

"These great scholars in Shengyuan Continent are really protecting each other. They don't take our Haiya Ancient Land seriously at all. Even if they are great scholars, they should be angry!" Jing Lixiao's face was full of anger.

This great scholar did not restrain his desires.

Jing Lixiao thought for a moment, sneered, and thought to himself: "Lei Tingyu is in the limelight in Haiya Ancient Land, and he is obviously not in harmony with Fang Yun. If I have the chance, I can do him a favor. As for the virtual saint of Shengyuan Continent, humph, what does it have to do with me!"

The Confucian classic "Book of Rites" once said, "Man is the one who transforms things, destroys the laws of nature and satisfies human desires."

This sentence means that people will be tempted by external things. If they do not restrain themselves, they will eventually become the same as things. They will lose the nature bestowed upon them by Heaven and will be completely controlled by desires, no longer worthy of being called human beings.

Later, this sentence was extended to the saying "preserve the laws of nature and eliminate human desires".

Human writing has a long history and its meanings are rich and varied, especially in ancient times when there were fewer characters than in later generations, so each character had more meanings.

For example, the word "欲" can be literally translated as the neutral word "desire", and the free translation should be the derogatory word "selfish desire". However, in the Confucian interpretation, this word has another extended meaning, namely "excessive selfish desire".

Confucianism advocates moderation and does not go to extremes, so the correct understanding of eliminating human desires is to eliminate inappropriate and excessive selfish desires.

Drinking water, eating, and reproducing offspring are all normal desires. Confucianism does not prohibit them. No Confucian has ever opposed the relationship between husband and wife. Confucianism even advocates childbirth and only opposes extravagant or promiscuous relationships between men and women.

The extreme anti-human desires such as prohibiting eating meat and prohibiting reproduction are not from Confucianism, but from later Buddhism or some other religious sects.

Becoming a monk means completely severing worldly ties including family ties, which is an extreme way to extinguish human desires.

Therefore, if the later generations believe that the annihilation of human desire is to completely eliminate human desire, it is a religious behavior and has nothing to do with Confucianism. It does not matter if ordinary people do not know this truth. If people who have studied ancient literature, philosophy or history also misinterpret the annihilation of human desire, then they have ulterior motives or are not well versed in academics.
