"So, what about a big landlord? Even if he doesn't take the initiative to be a bad guy, he has great power and will inevitably do bad things inadvertently, such as persecuting farmers when annexing land, lynching his own servants, or hoarding goods, driving up prices, and disrupting the market. What will such a person do? He will inevitably find ways to make it easier for the law to annex land, find ways to reduce the death penalty, and find ways to reduce the upper limit of the penalty for driving up prices and disrupting the market. Therefore, it is not difficult for everyone to understand what I said before, that when officials gain power from the monarch, they will try every means to avoid being sentenced to death and will inevitably enact robber laws."
Fang Yun smiled and said, "Okay, I have finished talking about the laws of justice and the laws of robbers. You may think that the descendants of the robber tribe are all bad, but just as there are scum and rebellious species among our Chinese people with high moral standards, there will also be people in their tribe who deeply understand their own problems. They will work hard to become better and avoid becoming like their ancestors. After all, people are progressive. However, among them, quite a number of people not only fail to restrain themselves, but also commit more brutal robber crimes than their ancestors! Moreover, the robber tribe is inherently hostile to the kind tribe. Why is that?"
"Because they used criminal means to occupy the land and establish their ethnic group and country. They cannot accept an ethnic group that did not establish its country in this way. It's like if a good person is surrounded by a group of vicious criminals, he will inevitably be hostile and oppressed, or even killed."
"They know that the means by which they established their country were dishonorable, so they must have created various imaginary enemies in their hearts. They speak in high-sounding terms and will act friendly when encountering weak aliens. However, if they encounter a strong alien and find that the other party can threaten them, they will inevitably stimulate the bandit instinct in their bodies and will find ways to repel or even attack them."
"Some people may say that I am denying those bandit tribes. No, I am just stating a fact. Moreover, bandit tribes have advantages in many aspects. They are not bound by morality, so they can use all kinds of despicable and shameless means to strengthen themselves. Compared with morality, they value interests more."
"On the other hand, our kind-hearted people often place more emphasis on morality and ignore their own interests. When their interests are lost little by little over time and accumulated, it is very likely that the entire group will be ruined. Therefore, we should learn the survival instincts of the bandit group to a limited extent."
"We don't learn to rob and plunder, but we can learn to protect our own interests, balance ethnic interests with morality, and not overemphasize morality. We don't learn to reject enemies who threaten them, but we should also learn not to over-trust or even worship other races. We can't learn to put murderers and victims on an equal footing, but we should ensure that kind-hearted citizens are more equal."
The following paragraphs sounded more like clichés, or even excessive, and many people had a feeling that Fang Yun had something more important to say.
Fang Yun paused for a moment, leaned forward slightly, and looked determined.
"With the foundation I mentioned before, we can continue to discuss what I have in mind."
"I strongly oppose the monarch making laws. I also don't think that the moral standards of the human race can determine all laws. I also don't think that the laws established by the legalists are necessarily correct, because we humans are simply unable to make perfect laws. We can only imagine that there is a perfect law. What we humans have to do is to make laws that are infinitely close to this perfect law."
"Since perfect laws cannot be made by humans, they must have been born before humans. We can call them natural laws, which can be said to be laws born naturally or part of the Way of Heaven. Therefore, we will find that in terms of the enforcement of laws, Legalists are far superior to Confucians, but in terms of understanding the roots of laws, Confucians are superior to Legalists. After all, Confucians recognize the existence of the Way of Heaven. The ancient Legalists completely handed over the law to the Son of Heaven, which was lowering the level of law."
After hearing Fang Yun say that Confucianism is superior to Legalism, many Legalists became angry and even resentful.
However, after listening to Fang Yun's words, Gao Wenwei's family not only lost their anger, but also showed a look of surprise.
Because, the Legalists had a great drawback from the beginning to the end, that is, the Legalists were dependent on the imperial power, so later they could only continue to consolidate the imperial power. Even the Legalists' holy teachings were often mixed with political tactics, very similar to today's eclectic schools. It was not until recent years that they were gradually purified.
The foundation and intention are not high, which means that the Legalists’ holy path has never seen a real breakthrough.
The Legalists had been struggling to get rid of imperial power until Fang Yun and the constitution came into being.
Fang Yun proposed the concept of natural law and expressed the intention of moving closer to the Way of Heaven, which allowed the Legalists to completely break through their original constraints, override the imperial power, and reach a higher level.
The reason why Confucianism is so powerful is that Confucianism relies on the supreme way of heaven. The foundation of Confucianism at the beginning was ritual, and ritual was to offer sacrifice to heaven. Confucians presided over sacrifices from the beginning and were the hub between heaven and the monarch, heaven and the country, heaven and other people. They were the only one that could directly communicate with the way of heaven.
In contrast, the existence of the other hundreds of schools of thought merely relies on the ordinary holy way. Even if they have the concept of the Way of Heaven, it is not as thorough as that of Confucianism.
The high-ranking Confucians present began to get nervous, because they monopolized the communication between humans and the Way of Heaven. If the natural law established by Fang Yun could truly gain the recognition of the Way of Heaven, the monopoly of Confucianism would inevitably be broken.
This is no longer an ordinary fight for the Holy Path, but a fight for the origin of the Holy Path. It is a true fight to the death.
Confucius once punished Shao Zhengmao, and he would certainly punish Fang Yun who divided the origin of Confucianism!
Fang Yun seemed not to notice the expressions of the Confucian scholars, and said: "Legalism is still Legalism after all, and Confucianism is still Confucianism after all. In other words, all schools of thought respect Confucianism and the Way of Heaven, but none of them can monopolize the Way of Heaven. Therefore, natural law cannot be the Way of Heaven."
Many Confucian scholars secretly breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that fortunately this was a literary gathering of the Holy Way, and all the forces would be formed in the end. If it was an ordinary literary gathering, Fang Yun's words would cause a huge mess, and it might even force the Semi-Saint to take action.
On the high platform, Fang Yun looked down at the audience, smiled slightly, and said: "I have pondered and studied the scriptures of the saints, and picked out a word from them. This word may have a broader meaning, but so far, it is suitable for natural law to be placed on it."
All the scholars in the meeting hall instinctively took a deep breath, then held their breath and kept quiet, staring at Fang Yun with wide eyes.
"Its name is 'principle', and it should be the beginning of all things!"
There seemed to be a sudden sound of thunder in the sky, but it disappeared immediately, as if it was just an illusion.
Chen Family Plum Garden.
An old man, wearing a washed-out blue gown, was about to walk out, like a general ready to go, but he stopped at the door and looked up at the sky.
"The young are to be feared!"
After the old man finished speaking, he turned back into the house, took off his gown, changed into casual clothes, sat on a recliner, and closed his eyes to rest.
Qingguo, the old Taoju.
Two identical people are playing chess.
The two men each held a chess piece, suspended in mid-air, in a stalemate.
Wolf Barbarians.
A huge wolf lay like a mountain, looking up at the sky. Fear flashed in its eyes, and then a cruel look appeared.
"When the great saints return, it will be the time for the human race to perish!"

By the way, the concept of natural law has never been unified, and there are many schools and theories. Shengyuan Continent is obviously not suitable for promoting positivism, or in other words, positivism and natural law both have flaws, so establishing a natural law system with Shengyuan Continent characteristics is the best way. As for the theory, it will be slowly unfolded.
